New metric 'green' milk cartons are 'non recyclable'

Tue, 28 Aug 2018

Despite a fanfare about going ‘green’, it’s been revealed the new milk cartons to be used by IOM Creameries, will not actually be able to be recycled on the Island and consumers will simply have to 'bin' them after use.

The current plastic 2-pint bottles are able to be recycled by disposing in the plastic recycling bins.

The change also brings about the end of the traditional size ‘pints’ of milk with consumers now forced to buy either 1 litre cartons for £1, or 500ml cartons which will sell for 55p.

Traditional pints of milk, sold in reusable glass bottles, are still available through two local independent dairies; Aalin Dairy in Sulby and also Cooils in the South.
