Nine wallaby incidents for police

Fri, 03 Aug 2018

Police have been called out nine times since 2014 to deal with incidents involving wallabies.

A colony of wild wallabies have lived predominantly around the Curraghs Wildlife Park since a pair escaped from the park, although the animals are often spotted in other parts of the Island as well.

Figures released by the Isle of Man Constabulary show the police have been called out nine times in the last five calendar years because of the wallabies, although no incidents have been recorded so far last year.

The majority of the incidents were reported during 2015 and 2016, which saw four and three callouts respectively.

The incidents have included a motorist swerving to avoid a wallaby and hitting a wall, car and wallaby collisions and the marine rescue of a wallaby.
