Hosepipe ban comes into force on Friday

Tue, 31 Jul 2018

A hosepipe ban will come into force on the Isle of Man later this week.

Manx Utilities has announced the ban will be in place from Friday August 3rd until further notice as a result of the recent spell of prolonged dry and hot weather.

Using water supplied by Manx Utilities to water private garden or wash cars using a hosepipe will be prohibited under the 1991 Water Act, and those breaking the law could face a fine of up to £1000.

The decision comes following talks between the water board and the Island's Met Office, who believe the dry weather will continue for the foreseeable future.

Manx Utilities hopes the move will manage the Island's diminished raw water stocks before they become critically low.
