A person needed medical treatment for burns to the face and neck after burning waste at their home in the south of the Island.
Fire crews were called out to the fire at Friary Park in Ballabeg shortly before 10am yesterday.
The occupant had used petrol to get the fire going, resulting in a flash burn, as well as the fire spreading and causing damage to the back of the house, a garage window and the garden gate.
Firefighters dampened down the area and checked for hot spots to make sure the flames were out, as well as requesting an ambulance to check on the occupant.
The fire service warns against burning household waste as it can be a nuisance to neighbours, release harmful toxins and get out of control.
