Three children and an adult had to call for help after being cut off by the tide in Douglas.
The group was trapped by the old sewer pipe just below the road from Summerland to Port Jack shortly before 6pm yesterday.
Officers from Douglas Coastguard wore dry suits to enter the water and recover the group, but by the time the team reached the scene they discovered that the people who made the call had managed to get to safety.
The coastguards conducted a search of the area to make sure no-one else was trapped before standing down.
