Two thirds of developments on the Island over the last decade have been on brownfield sites or conversions of existing buildings.
The Government revealed the figures after preparing data for the Tynwald Select Committee looking into developments on unoccupied urban sites.
The statistics show 44% of planing approvals for new homes between 2007 and 2017 were on brownfield sites, while a further 22% involved conversions, and 34% were on greenfield sites.
The figures also showed brownfield sites are more likely to be used in the east and north of the Island.
