New Data Protection laws have been rejected by Tynwald in what was a humiliating defeat for Howard Quayle’s Government.
Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper spoke out against the GDPR Regulations highlighting a number of issues that raised concern.
Mr Hooper told Energy FM News that enforcement provisions are not appropriate and the regulations will be costly to operate. He said that a more ‘pragmatic approach’ is required that will save money but also give us a law that is ‘straightforward, effective and enforceable’.
The embarrassing defeat came when the Legislative Council voted against the Regulations meaning that the Government will have to bring them back next month.
Mr Hooper hopes that the Government will listen to Tynwald’s concerns and rethink some of the regulations before bringing them back.
