The Isle of Man Constabulary insists it takes all reports of sexual offences seriously, despite there not being a Forensic Medical Examiner based on the Island.
The Manx police previously used the services of two local examiners, but they have both resigned their positions, leaving the Constabulary to fly in a qualified doctor when needed.
The Constabulary released a statement following posts on social media suggesting the police no longer employ examiners to collect evidence in cases of alleged sexual offences.
The police insist victims are fully looked after from the start of the process and measures are in place to gather evidence as soon as possible.
Officers are monitoring the situation to ensure the current service meets the needs of victims and investigators.
