Tynwald will consider the proposed £124m takeover of the Steam Packet Company today.
Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan will ask the Island's parliament to approve the purchase of the ferry operator.
The Government believes buying the operator is the best way to support the needs of the local people and the Island's economy.
Members will also be asked to vote on plans to arrange a new sea services agreement within 12 months and appoint to directors to the Steam Packet's board.
This month's sitting of Tynwald gets underway this morning.
