An organisation representing local licencees is expressing its concern at the rise of anti-social and aggressive behaviour on licensed premises.
The Isle of Man Licensed Victuallers Association says there's been an increase in the number of verbal and physical attacks against pub staff after being refused service.
The association insists it's the licencee's court appointed duty to refuse service to those who've consumed too much alcohol or recreational drugs.
Chief Constable Gary Roberts took to social media after a pub designated official was badly assaulted in Douglas at the weekend, stressing that such behaviour will not be tolerated, and that officers will do all they can to protect staff.
Publicans say the small minority who cause problems react inappropriately when asked to leave, but that they refuse to let these incidents spoil licensed venues for the majority it their patrons.
