Police are urging motorists who modify their cars to ensure their vehicles remain road legal.
The Roads Policing Unit revealed its received increased reports of vehicles with loud exhausts and intentional backfiring, as well as stretched tyres.
Officers warn exhaust systems and silencers must be maintained in good and efficient order and not altered after the date of manufacture to increase the noise they make.
Stretch tyres - where smaller tyres are fitted to the rim and stretched to fit - are illegal, with officers warning this is dangerous.
The RPU says road safety must be maintained and that those found to be breaking the rules will be issued with vehicle defect rectification forms.
