Lemur sisters killed in wildlife park fire

Fri, 27 Apr 2018

The Curraghs Wildlife Park has confirmed two lemurs who were missing following a fire at the site have died.

Keepers found the bodies of sisters Georgia and Nina yesterday after their enclosure was destroyed by a fire overnight.

The fire service carried out an investigation into the incident, determining that an electrical component failure likely caused the blaze.

The park says all the electrics were new and signed off after testing before the lemurs moved into the enclosure four weeks ago.

A breeding adult pair of lemurs who were in the same enclosure were rescued uninjured.

The park remained closed yesterday but will re-open this morning.
