Public wants enforceable sanctions in GDPR legislation

Mon, 23 Apr 2018

The Manx public wants new data protection laws to have enforceable sanctions and good practice information to be available.

The Government has published a summary of responses to a consultation on new General Data Protection Regulation legislation.

32 organisations and 25 individuals responded to the survey, raising the need to ensure sanctions are enforceable.

The need for guidance and concerns around divergence from the UK were also raised by those who responded.

Policy and Reform Minister Chris Thomas confirmed a second set of draft orders will be considered by Tynwald next month.

The new laws will make the Island compliant with GDPR and the Law Enforcement Directive.
