The police and courts could have greater power to tackle domestic abuse on the Isle of Man in the future.
Home Affairs Minister Bill Malarkey confirmed at this month's sitting of Tynwald that his Department is currently working on legislation to provide additional legal powers to tackle domestic abuse.
The Minister confirmed the proposed new law will cover domestic violence as well as coercive behaviour and financial and emotional abuse.
Mr Malarkey hopes a public consultation on two new Bills will be launched before the political recess this summer, with the new laws beginning to progress through the House of Keys before the end of the year.
