The Environment Minister warns introducing a return scheme for plastic bottles could increase carbon gas emissions on the Isle of Man.
Geoffrey Boot was asked whether the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture plans to bring in a scheme similar to the recent pilot system introduced in the UK.
However, Mr Boot says most items that would be returned are currently processed at the Energy from Waste Plant and converted into electricity.
As a result, the Minister believes the small scale of the scheme could require more energy and increase emissions.
Mr Boot did confirm he would monitor the UK pilot and consider carefully in the future whether such a system could work on the Island.
