The Infrastructure Minister says the redevelopment of Douglas Promenade will be the most important capital project on the Isle of Man for some time.
The £25m scheme is due to get underway in September and will take three years to complete.
Ray Harmer revealed the project will need 50 skilled workers to complete it, while the aggregate, concrete, paving and tarmac that will be used could cover more than 263 Premier League football pitches.
The work will include reconstruction of the highway, replacing the horse tram track, installation of new drainage and work to pedestrian crossings, as well as the inclusion of a cultural area near the Gaiety Theatre and Villa Marina.
The Minister insists the project will dramatically improve the promenade and provide a major boost to the Manx economy, particularly the construction sector.
