Tynwald asked to recognise impact of poverty

The Speaker of the House of Keys wants Tynwald to recognise the impact of poverty on the Isle of Man.

Juan Watterson will bring a motion to this month's sitting of Tynwald calling for the existence of relative poverty on the Island to be recognised.

The Rushen MHK also wants Tynwald to acknowledge the impact poverty has on individuals, families and society.

Mr Watterson will ask Tynwald to establish a Select Committee to investigate the definition of poverty, the causes and assess Government's policies on poverty.
