One of the Island's coastguard teams was called out to remove a length of rope that could have caused damage to boats.
A member of the public spotted the rope lying on rocks just below the old Douglas Coastguard station at Little Head.
Crews believe it could have caused considerable shipping damage if it had floated back out of sea.
Douglas Coastguard crews removed the rope and will store it back at the station until the owner is found as it is undamaged and appears to be new.
The incident was one of three attended by the Douglas station yesterday.
