Manx National Heritage wants to ensure the former Castletown Police Station is treated sympathetically and its heritage values respected.
The building has been listed on the open market after the Southern Neighbourhood Policing Team moved to another facility last year.
MNH asked the Government to transfer the building to them so they could look after the building and find a new purpose for it, but the transfer proposal was rejected.
The Trustees of the organisation hope to work with the new owners to identify appropriate uses for the site.
The building is registered, and MNH will work to ensure there is no review of the building's status.
The Government is seeking £250,000 for the site.
