Fri, 09 Mar 2018
The Fire Service has issue a stern warning for those operating unregistered Homestay as part of this years TT Festival.
Carl Kinvig, the Island Senior Fire Safety Officer said that not adhering to fire safety standards can have very serious consequences for both the owner and their guests, you may also require a Fire Certificate to operate. Failure to do so could result in a potential prosecution which could leave you facing a fine or even imprisonment.
The Tourism Chiefs have also added their weight to the warning.
Angela Byrne from the DfE said that If you are not registered on the scheme you don’t have access to the Department’s Public Liability insurance. This means that if a visitor is injured whilst staying in your property and they decide that you were somehow negligent, they have the option to bring an action against you
Residents taking in Visitors for the TT can register on the Department's dedicated website - iomhomestay.com
