Manx cyclist Mark Cavendish suffered a concussion and whiplash after crashing on the opening stage of the Abu Dhabi Tour.
The Team Dimension Data rider was one of a number of riders to go down in the neutral zone at the start of stage 1.
Cavendish attempted to ride on but was forced to abandon the race shortly after.
A statement from the Manx Missile's team confirmed a serious neck injury has been ruled out after hospital checks, but that he has concussive symptoms and neck pain.
The team weren't willing to allow Cavendish to continue due to the concussion, and will continue to monitor his condition.
