IoM Bank offers advice on smishing scam

Isle of Man Bank is offering advice to its customers following a smishing attack.

The scam involves sending messages to customers which appear genuine as they appear in the same message thread as real messages from the bank.

The police issued a warning last week after a local woman received a message claiming to be from the bank, urging her to contact a call centre which then asks for personal details.

The bank is urging anyone who receives a suspicious message to check the number they're being asked to call, and only ever to use known or published number such as those on the bank's website or on a bank statement.

The company insists it will never ask a customer to use their card reader over the phone.

Anyone who has responded to such a message should contact the bank immediately using a published number.
