The Infrastructure Minister believes there are enough parking spaces in Douglas's multi-storey car parks to make up for the loss of spaces on the promenade.
Almost a third of the 236 spaces currently available on Douglas Promenade will be lost if plans to reconstruct the road are granted planning permission.
Ray Harmer told this week's sitting of the House of Keys that the multi-storey car parks in the town centre are under used and the available spaces more than make up for the spaces being lost on the promenade.
The Minister also revealed his Department is looking for option to allow temporary parking during the construction phase.
A detailed parking study will be carried out later this year to determine the future requirements of parking in Douglas.
