Castletown Town Commissioners are putting the rates for the area up by 5%.
The local authority has announced a rise of 21p in the pound to 341p in the pound after seven years of rate freezes.
Chairman of the board Colin Leather says the rise is necessary if the town is to continue to improve itself, warning that the Commissioners will have to make some difficult decisions about finances and amenities in the coming year.
5p of the 21p raise will be used to finance the proposed acquisition of the Old Fire Station from the Department of Home Affairs.
