The Government is to focus on creating safe walking and cycling networks after over 80% of responses to a consultation supported plans for active travel.
The Department of Infrastructure sought feedback on the introduction of an Active Travel Strategy - encouraging members of the public to choose walking, cycling or jogging for shorter journeys.
82% of the 379 people who responded agreed with active travel, and the Government says it will use this feedback to move forward with its plans.
Emphasis will be placed on school children and those who work within 2.5 miles on Douglas town centre.
It's hoped active travel will improve physical and mental health, as well as reducing traffic congestion and lowering carbon emissions.
