DoI to charge companies for dumping oversized, hazardous items

Sat, 23 Dec 2017

Companies attempting to dump oversized or hazardous items at the Energy from Waste Plant will be facing fines from next year.

The Department of Infrastructure will issue financial penalties against those who try to dispose of waste that could result in blockages at the facility.

The plant on Richmond Hill recently had to be taken offline while part of a skip or metal container was removed from the plant. The Department says such problems take up to 48 hours to clear and cost thousands of pounds.

The DoI claims promoting self-auditing has failed to prevent issues, so handling fees of £70 to £105 will be applied from January 1st.

Records will be kept, ensuring that repeat offenders are charged double or triple the initial fee.
