An investigation in water contamination in Lower Douglas has found the Steam Packet Company washing down the Ben-my-Chree was the cause.
The ferry operator and Manx Utilities found sea water was pumped back into the fresh water during a routine was down by the Steam Packet.
The Steam Packet says a backup pump in the harbour detected low pressure, introducing seawater into the system.
Both organisations insist the has never happened before, and are working together to ensure it doesn't happen again in the future.
Residents and businesses along North Quay and Church Road were unable to use their water for drinking, cooking or cleaning for almost 24 hours while checks were made to ensure the system was clear.
