OFT, police warn of HMRC scam

Fri, 08 Dec 2017

The Island's Office of Fair Trading and the police are warning of a new scam targeting Manx residents.

Scammers are calling Isle of Man numbers claiming to be from HM Revenue and Customs, stating that the person they're calling is going to be sued.

The caller leaves a recorded message and asks the victim to phone an 0161 number and press 1 to speak to the officer dealing with their case.

The authorities warn that this is a scam, and that calling the number would incur a very expensive charge.

The OFT is also advising residents to warns their family, friends and neighbours about the scam so they're not duped.
