The Island's Office of Fair Trading wants the Isle of Man to follow the UK's lead and ban surcharges on debit and credit card payments.
From January, it will be illegal for traders in the United Kingdom to apply surcharges for consumer payments by card.
The OFT has confirmed that Tynwald will be asked to approve an order next month that will prohibit card charges from January 13th.
The rules will mean traders have to charge the same amount regardless of what method of payment they take.
