The Department of Infrastructure will use £500,000 to improve roads and footpaths in residential areas.
Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer was asked about the backlog of maintenance in such areas during this week's sitting of the House of Keys.
Mr Harmer revealed his Department has an additional half a million pounds for work in residential areas this year, and will start work on the worst-affected areas soon.
10 estates have been identified for the first batch of work, but the Minister hopes the funding will be available again in the future to continue to reduce the backlog.
Mr Harmer also insisted that improving the existing infrastructure is preferable to big reconstruction schemes due to budget cuts and staff reductions over the last 10 years.
