Sub Post Office losses not sustainable

Thu, 09 Nov 2017

The Chairman of the Isle of Man Post Office says a review of the network is needed to ensure it is sustainable in the future.

Julie Edge confirmed in this week's sitting of the House of Keys that the volume of transactions being made at the Post Office is falling at an average of 7% per year, resulting in a £1.5m loss for the Sub Post Office Chain in the last financial year.

Ms Edge plans to present a review of the post office network to the Council of Ministers of Tynwald in the near future, but warns the organisation cannot continue to operate with such a level of loss.

The Chairman believes post offices will continue to play a role in the future, particularly in rural communities, but is urging the Government to take into account the acceleration of digital strategies.
