Douglas lifeboat was called out to a search after another crew received a distress signal.
A team from St Bees lifeboat in Cumbria were carrying out a training exercise when they picked up the signal yesterday evening.
The volunteer crew from Douglas was dispatched to look for the source of the signal, heading 10 miles out of Douglas while scanning for a signal.
However, the Coastguard stood down the Douglas team after no signal was found, allowing them to return to the station.
