The Chief Minister says the Government must fully understand the implications of paying the living wage before committing to becoming a living wage employer.

Tynwald approved a report setting the living wage for the Island at £8.61 per hour, with over 100 Government workers earning below the rate.

Howard Quayle confirmed in this week's sitting of the House of Keys that he supports the principle of a living wage, and that the Government should set an example.

However, he warns that research is needed to understand the impact and that the Government shouldn't rush into anything without a proper strategy.
