The Island's fishing authority will rigorously enforce catch limits and other controls when the king scallop season opens tomorrow.
The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture will impose a total allowable catch for the season for the first time.
94 vessels are licensed to fish for king scallops within the Island's 12-mile limit, and will be allowed to land 3,203 tonnes of scallops during the seven-month season.
Each vessel will be limited to a daily catch of 1,050kgs to prevent overfishing early in the season.
DEFA estimates that the king scallop fishery is worth £12m to the Island's economy.
