Police stopped 15 motorists with vehicle defects on the first day of their winter checks campaign.
Officers from the Roads Policing Unit along with vehicle inspectors from the Department of Infrastructure are carrying out checks to ensure cars are safe in the run up to winter.
14 drivers were issued with defect notices, giving them a week to rectify minor issues with their vehicles, while another was handed a £120 fine and given three penalty points for having a tyre worn down to the cord.
The police hope the checks will encourage motorists to spend a couple of minutes checking their vehicle over before starting their journeys.
