The Education Minister insists safety is the top priority when deciding whether schools should remain open during spells of adverse weather.
Graham Cregeen was asked about school closure procedures in the House of Keys this morning after the Department of Education and Children kept its schools open as ex-Hurricane Ophelia hit the Island last week.
Mr Cregeen told the House that his Department liaises with the Met Office at Ronalsway, transport bosses and the schools to ensure it's safe to keep its sites open during such conditions.
The Buchan School and King William's College decided to close early, but the Minister confirmed DEC pupils were able to get home before the peak storm conditions.
