The Department of Infrastructure is beginning its annual review of public sector rents.
The Government has confirmed it's started to hold talks with the Island's local housing authorities about the cost of housing for the 2018-19 financial year.
Local authorities have been asked to provide their views on rental income by the end of the month.
The feedback from the 15 housing authorities will help the Department put together its proposal, which is due to be agreed by the Council of Ministers by December.
Last year rents were increased by 2% resulting in a rise of £1.87 per week for those in three-bedroom houses.
