A petition calling for the Manx Government not to extract fossil fuels from the seabed has gained more than 1000 signatures.
Isle of Man Friends of the Earth set up the petition on change.org earlier this year, but it's gained further support since the Department of Economic Development announced plans to licence hydrocarbon exploration earlier this week.
The petition says most of the world's existing fossil fuel deposits should be left in the ground to avoid catastrophic levels of global warming.
Friends of the Earth also warns extracting fossil fuels could pollute water and air as well as disturbing marine mammals, fish and birds.
The UK has also been inviting application for licences elsewhere in the Irish Sea.
