Over £140,000 spent on trips for Government bosses

The Manx Government has spent over £140,000 sending Chief Executives on trips off Island since 2012.

The figures revealed the Gambling Supervision Commission has spent the most on business trips, with 35 meetings and events costing over £35,000 since 2013.

The Cabinet Office were the second highest spenders with almost £24,000 spent on trips, while the Communication Commissions' bill was also in excess of £15,000.

The single most expensive trip for a Government Chief Executive over the last five years came in 2013 when then-Treasury boss Malcolm Couch met with the World Bank and IMF on a trip to Washington, costing almost £5,000.

The Department of Infrastructure used the least funds on trips of all Government boards and Departments, using just £210 to fund two trips to Merseyside to discuss the future of the Liverpool Landing Stage.

Other trips funding by the Government over the last five years include a Harvard Training Course in Boston, a trip to the Island Games in Gotland and a Commonwealth meeting in the Bahamas.
