The Department of Education and Children wants home educators to provide an annual report so it can ensure children are receiving the right education.
The Department hopes checking what is being taught to those who are home schooled will ensure youngsters receive a full-time education that is suitable for their age and ability.
The plans are part of the proposed new Education Act, which is expected to go out to consultation within the next six to eight months.
Once the consultation begins, the Department hopes home educators will provide feedback, including if they feel there is a more appropriate way for the Department to ensure their children are receiving a suitable education.
The plans were revealed in a Tynwald written answer in response to a question from Garff MHK Daphne Caine.
