The Island's lifeboat crews are warning members of the public not to attempt to rescue someone in trouble in the sea.

The RNLI says more people die at the coast in August than in another other month of the year.

The charity claims only 17% of people say they would dial 999 if they saw someone struggling in the sea, preferring to attempt a rescue themselves.

The lifeboat stations on the Island have been sharing the RNLI's message, which urges people to contact the emergency services if they see someone in danger and ask for the coastguard.
