The Island's police are urging members of the public to be vigilant when using data sites and apps.
Manx officers revealed problems can arise when people who meet online go on a date in person.
Issues reported to the police range from the person not being the same as described online to dates being invited into people's homes with no checks being done.
The police revealed they get called when or after a date has gone wrong in some way, and are urging the public to think carefully before inviting a stranger into their home or hotel room.
