The coastguard anchored the car until the tide was low enough for the vehicle to be recovered.

Fire crews and the coastguard were called out after a car got stuck on a beach in the west of the Island.

The vehicle had been parked at Glen Wyllin beach when the tide was out, but the rescue teams had to be dispatched when the tide turned, trapping the vehicle and the driver.

The driver managed to swim to shore before the coastguard arrived, but the wind and tide were taking the car out to sea, posing a shipping hazard.

The fire crews stood down after ensuring the driver wasn't trapped, but the coastguard remained at the scene for over five hours.

The vehicle was anchored until the tide turned again, allowing the owner to arrange for it to be recovered.

The coastguard issued the driver with safety advice, while warning the general public that driving on beaches can be dangerous.
