Fire service to carry out extra inspections

Wed, 21 Jun 2017

Fire officers on the Isle of Man are carrying out additional inspections in response to the Grenfell Tower fire in London.

The Island's Fire and Rescue Service will focus on buildings with five storeys or more including hotels, boarding houses, flats and large houses in multiple occupation to ensure the buildings comply with fire safety regulations.

Home Affairs Minister Bill Malarkey says the Grenfell Tower tragedy is a reminder of the devastating impact of fire, and that the fire service will help ensure the Island is a safe place to love and work.

Anyone worried about the standard of fire safety within their premises can contact the fire brigade on 647303.

79 people are presumed dead as a result of the Grenfell Tower fire.
