The Steam Packet Company will spend more than half a million pounds on essential works at the Liverpool landing stage.
The ferry operator says the investment will allow it to continue fastcraft services between the city and Douglas until the end of 2019, when a new berth will be needed,
The Packet's contract to use the current landing stage had been due to expire next year after the owner of the site said it was too old to maintain.
However, Peel Ports reviewed the condition and determined it could be extended for another three years if essential work was carried out.
The Steam Packet will reimburse Peel Ports £540,000 for the work, which will take place later this year, and insists there are no plans to seek contribution from the Manx Government or increase passenger fares.
