Controlled burn warning from fire service

Thu, 11 May 2017

The Island's Fire and Rescue Service is reminding the Manx public of the risks involved with controlled burning during dry weather.

Fire officers warn the prolonged dry spell along with sea breezes means such fires can quickly get out of hand.

The service is also issuing a warning that heather burning is prohibited at this time of year, while other controlled burns are also subject to restrictions.

Anyone planning a controlled burn is urged to contact the Emergency Services Joint Control Room in advance, and check DEFA's website for details on restrictions.

The fire service also recommends not leaving fires unattended, keeping bottles and glass away from the fire and ensure smoking materials are disposed of correctly.
