Manx Utilities will assess whether the Silverburn River needs dredging later this year.
Chairman of the authority Alex Allinson told the House of Keys that natural rivers aren't routinely dredged, but are periodically inspected to prevent flooding.
Removing the build-up of gravel from the river three times since 2011 has cost over £13,000.
If the river does need to be dredged, the work would have to be carried out between July and September to avoid impacting on wildlife.
