A member of the Department of Economic Development says the RNLI is being charged to use the TT logo.
Rob Callister confirmed in response to a post in a Facebook group dedicated to local news that the lifeboat charity has to pay to use the logo on its pins.
Mr Callister insists the pins generate considerable income for the RNLI, and that the reduced fee goes towards the Department's administration costs.
The MHK added that the Department has to defend the TT brand, and hopes the RNLI's pins will more than cover the admin fee.
The DED came under fire earlier this year after threatening legal action against Bushy's Brewery for using the TT logo without permission.
