Anyone who hasn't applied for a new firearms licence must prove their weapon has been surrendered or sold.
Home Affairs Minister Bill Malarkey confirmed in this week's sitting of Tynwald that anyone who hasn't renewed their paperwork must have proof they don't have the gun, crossbow or ammunition anymore.
Those who don't provide such proof to the police could face a visit from officers to ensure they don't have an unlicensed weapon.
Police have been delivering new licences to those with firearms following the renewal deadline earlier this year.
