The Manx Government is setting up a board to protect the king and queen scallop fisheries around the Island.
The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture admitted it was concerned over the number of king scallops being fished at the start of the season, but no body exists to advise over the species.
As a result, Minister Geoffrey Boot has founded the Scallop Management Board, which will meet for the first time next month to discuss the annual stock assessment.
DEFA says both types of scallop are worth millions to the Manx economy and support many jobs on the Island.
